"Teatro in Time of Plague – 55

I had a wild adventure today. It is my digit day to go out – today was double digits, 8 and 9. I am nine, my friend Roger is 8; we decided a couple of days ago to celebrate however we could. Turns out Pizza Hut is now open for service (at a few tables, with most of them empty). So we went and had a pepperoni. The first time in seven months that I’ve been to a restaurant.

Tuesday, October 6, 2020 - The official statistics page hasn’t been updated.

There has been a big show of arresting the guy responsible for the purchase of the seven mobile hospitals. Marco Bogran is his name. He was the head of what they called Invest-H, the official government agency to make purchases to defend from Covid.

Wednesday, October 7, 2020 - 80, 662 cases, 2, 447 deaths.

The troupe is working on a radio version of Carlos Morton’s play for us, Frontera Sin Fin. This is our contribution to the literature about migrants. We haven’t been able to keep it running because it needs three good women, which we never have for an extended period of time. But getting them just for a recording should be a lot easier.

Thursday, October 8, 2020 - 81, 160 cases, 2, 466 deaths.

The mobile hospital in Tegucigalpa will be ready to turn over to the ministry of health in two weeks. They say. The one in San Pedro Sula they will turn over on Sunday. They say. The two which are on the high seas (destined for Choluteca and Santa Rosa de Copán) will arrive to Puerto Cortés on Sunday. They say. The other three are in the port of Istanbul and will embark on Monday. They say. Another big adventure this afternoon: with Luis, I went to the mall and we had a coffee. They’ve built a second story in the mall, with escalators to get there. When we were coming back, the police had stopped traffic in the opposite direction to inspect a bus (a local for Tela) which had too many people (they are supposed to go only on every other seat).

Friday, October 9, 2020 - 81, 672 cases, 2, 477 deaths.

Another day of wild adventures: I went with Odgar to a new coffee shop right downtown, which I hadn’t known existed; it’s in the old Farmacia Moderna, right across the street from City Hall. Actually it was a nice discovery; it’s near the teatro and is a nice place.

Saturday, October 10, 2020 - 82, 552 cases, 2,492 deaths.

All Progreso was without electricity all day today. They had already cut it when I woke up at about 7:15; they had announced that it would last until 4:00. It finally came back at 5:30. Very frustrating day.

Sunday, October 11, 2020 - 83, 146 casesm 2, 504 deaths.

The two mobile hospitals that are on the high seas will arrive at Puerto Cortés tonight. They say. Three more are in the international shipping zone of Istanbul. They say. I had a pleasant zoom chat in the afternoon with my siblings Mike and Pat. Yesterday was my digit day. It was also the digit day of my lawyer friend Roger. We were going to celebrate and go out on the town but then we were without electricity yesterday. So we went out today, even though it isn’t our digit day. The best restaurant in El Progreso, Las Tejas, is open for business. They are still good.

Keep safe and wash your hands,

Jack
