"Teatro in times of plague"

8858 cases, 310 deaths.

Cloudy and rainy all day; pleasantly cool. El Tigre Bonilla is back in the news. El tigre is the ex police chief who is under indictment for drug dealing in the New York court. There are many rumours that he is singing, although I’m not sure how much that may be wishful thinking. It’s unclear where he is. Likewise there is speculation that the New York court is going to indict JOH, but I greatly doubt they will do that since JOH is under Trump´s wing.

The state of siege has been extended 2 more weeks to the end of the month. More things are opening up, but there is still no public transport and you can go out for essential purchases according to the last digit of your i.d.

We suddenly have a crowd in the house. Four Honduran novices have shown up from Panamá. They have finished their novitiate and will take vows on Sunday. From there they will try to arrange papers to be able to go on to their next stage. I think that will be one of them to Guatemala, two to Mexico and one to Dominican Republic. Who knows how long it will be before they can go on. But it will be pleasant to have them here for whatever time it shall be.

Big national news: The president JOH and his wife have tested positive. She is asymptomatic. He is in the hospital with pneumonia.

10299 cases, 336 deaths.

We hit the ten thousand mark. There was a big fire yesterday in one of the markets in San Pedro Sula, Mercado Guamilito. It was a tourist favorite for its stalls of artesanía. It was the best place around to get Guatemalan textiles, among many other things. There was nobody hurt – the market has been closed, although some of it residents have set up shop on the streets around it. From the newspaper reports, its looks like it’s going to have to be completely rebuilt. No hint of what caused the fire. It has deprived a lot of people of their livelihood.

Edy and Luis finished off the recording of El Lórax this morning. Now a lot of editing to do.

I went out today: Luis picked me up and we went to the teatro to have an in person pow-wow about where we shall go from here. Basically, for the moment it’s radio-teatro. I didn’t listen to any of the recordings, but they both seemed quite content with what they’ve got. We´ll take two weeks to edit then on to the next, which we have already defined as Los Motivos del Lobo. That should be easy.

Downtown has settled into a new normal. I sat in the parquet outside the Cathedral for a few minutes. It wasn’t jammed, but there were people, enough so that the vendedores ambulantes were out in force. Most people are masked. As soon as you sit down in the park and look, you can check out the clandestine taxi service. Food places are open, I imagine by carry-out only.

12,306 cases, 358 deaths.

According to La Prensa, the San Pedro Sula newspaper, the New York court of the deposed Judge Berman is the court digging into Honduran drug dealing. So JOH may have been saved. La Prensa doesn’t quote any sources for this – it isn’t mentioned in the article of FrancePresse, but only in the headlines. Tony Hernández may have been saved as well.

The powers-that-be have announced that Tegucigalpa goes back to level 0 in the reopening process. That is to say, this has been a disaster. It doesn’t surprise me.

Keep safe and wash your hands,

Jack
